The reputation of the organization and profession is influenced by the conduct and professionalism of PDTA members.
To become a PTDA member, individuals must agree to and uphold the PTDA’s Code of Ethics. This code serves as a guideline for how members should interact with their clients and the dogs in their care.
Be respectful
Maintain a civil and respectful attitude, even when opinions differ. Foster a productive environment where everyone can express their opinions without facing negative consequences.
Be inclusive
Welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, culture, class, orientation, education, age, size, family status, political or religious beliefs, and mental and physical abilities.
Be considerate
Treating your peers with respect is essential in any workplace. Everyone on the team brings unique skills and perspectives that contribute to success. By valuing each other’s contributions and being mindful of how our actions impact the team, we can create a positive and supportive network.
Be professional
Conduct yourself professionally and show kindness to others. Maintain professionalism in all your interactions and communications.
Be honest
Provide honest opinions to clients and refer them to other professionals if their needs exceed your capabilities, regardless of the impact on your business.
Be accepting
Acknowledge that other professionals may use accepted training aids, techniques, and practices successfully. Respect their right to participate in the free market with their chosen methods.
Be above reproach
Support the reputation of our organisation, the dog profession and other members, by avoiding fraud, deception, impropriety, discrimination, violence, harassment, or slander.
Be confidential
Maintain confidentiality in matters such as member fees and client circumstances. Communicate respectfully, effectively, and confidentially to uphold the integrity of the professional-client relationship.
Be empathetic
Show empathy and understanding towards the needs of clients, customers, and dogs. Maintain a professional demeanour while considering their unique circumstances.
Be truthful
Intentionally providing false information or conviction of animal cruelty may lead to permanent dismissal.
While PDTA strives to maintain the highest standards of conduct among its members, it cannot be held responsible for the actions of individual members.
